Bengals re-sign Sims, add Anderson

Pat Sims

The Bengals on Saturday re-signed defensive tackle Pat Sims, one of the club’s unrestricted free agents, and signed UFA defensive end Jamaal Anderson, who played last season with Indianapolis.

Sims has played all four of his previous seasons with Cincinnati, logging 52 games with 23 starts. He played in the first 11 games of last season with one start, posting 28 tackles with one sack. He missed the last five games due to an ankle injury. He helped the Bengals finish eighth in the NFL last season in fewest yards allowed per rushing play (3.9).

Anderson spent his first four seasons with Atlanta before moving to Indianapolis for 2011. He played in 15 games for the Colts last season, with one start, and logged 3.0 sacks among his 24 tackles. He also had a blocked field goal, the second of his career. He was a Falcons first-round draft choice in 2007 and logged 46 starts in four seasons with Atlanta.

While Pro Bowl wide receiver A.J. Green began his second straight practice Thursday, running back Giovani Bernard was nowhere to be seen for the second straight day. That would indicate Bernard is going to miss the first game of his two-year NFL career 1 p.m. Sunday against the Jaguars at Paul Brown Stadium.
